Marcel
Mathys - Sculptures
From the 1st of May until the 5th of September 2004
The
artist Marcel Mathys keeps a sensual relation with his favourite
material: bronze. The Human Being is at
the centre of his research. Mathys excels in showing the
gliding of the light on the body. Using the “non-finished”,
he varies the shapes and visualises the states of transition
between the individual and its context. About fifty of his
most recent creations are exposed at the Castle of Gruyères.
Marcel
Mathys is born in 1933 in Neuchâtel. After
having studied at the School of Art in La Chaux-de-Fonds,
he starts a professional career as an artist. His range
of activities is varied: sculpture, drawing, engraving
and lithography. He has also illustrated books of authors
such as Pierre Chappuis, Jacques Chessex and Monique
Laederach. His art is present in many Swiss museums,
libraries and private collections. Marcel Mathys lives
and works in Auvernier in the canton of Neuchâtel. |
