Patrick
Woodroffe - The forget-me-not gardener
From the 17th of September until the 30th of October 2005
Patrick
James Woodroffe is an artist with a vivacious fantasy and an impromptu
hand. There will be exhibition of his original drawings, as well
as a selection of his most refined engravings, at Gruyeres Castle
to coincide with the launch of his comic
book, “The forget-me-not gardener”.
Woodroffe, born in 1940, lives and works in Cornwall (GB). He is well known in
Gruyères due to his exhibitions and the lighting installation in the prison
tower. In his new book, he tells the initiatory tale of twin brothers who have
been separated. One lives near the coastal town of Pendennis in Cornwall and
the other near Gruyères Castle. The fate of these heroes is tightly linked
to the emblematic character of these fortresses. The narration harmonises reality
with fantasy as well as having an autobiographical touch and is lightly sprinkled
with a touch of humour. As always with Woodroffe, the visuals are of an outstanding
quality. He develops a play of poetic shapes between the plant, animal and the
human world. By their detail and line precision, his vignettes evoke an art virtuoso
of the fantasy miniature.
