Jean-Claude
Mathier - Photographic compositions of the castle
From the 11th of February until the 7th of May 2006
For
over a year now, the photographer Jean-Claude Mathier’s main
interest has been the Castle of Gruyères. He captures the
site from all possible angles and then transforms his photographs
on computer. This resulting in an exhibition of over fifty pieces.
His compositions are surprising in their poetry, inventivness and
humour. With their formal density and chromatic games, they call
to the spectator. Close to a surrealist form, these images dim
the boundaries between dream and reality and reset the imaginary
of the castle.
Jean-Claude Mathier was born in 1949 in Switzerland, from 1966 he studies at “l’école
des Arts et Métiers” (school of Arts and Crafts) in Vevey and carries
out different work placements in photo studios. In 1969-70, he continues his
training at the "Beaux-Arts" in Paris. Traveller of the world and of
cultures, curious of new techniques, he never stops to enrich his artistic development.
Today, he works and lives in Gumefens, near the lake Gruyère. |
