Beat Breitenstein - Sculptures and Reliefs
From the 2nd of May until the 30th of August
For the summer exhibition, the Castle innovates and celebrates
wood with 90 sculptures and reliefs made by Beat
Breitenstein, a personality of the today’s Suisse art. On the
esplanade, similar to Land Art, the sculptures have emerged
from the trunk of ancestral oaks. Natural pillars or marks in
the landscape, they trace their correspondence to the nearby
forests. The vaulted room with its architectural resonance has
inspired an installation on the walls and the floor. We can
discover here recent compositions like the reliefs and works
with glass. In the arsenal (room 1b), a selection of works illustrate
patterns explored over these last five years: bonds,
rings, layers.
Beat Breitenstein was born in 1954 in Sissach (Basel). It is
during his childhood and with his farther who was a cabinet
maker that he develops his affinity with wood. From his first
carrier as fashion designer that he has carried out with passion
in Norway and Switzerland, he has kept an innate sense
for elegance and shape. Since 1994, he is an independent
sculptor, working in Switzerland and abroad. His creativity
is very rich, from imposing works in the open to the varied
expressions of medium to small scale sculptures. Beat
Breitenstein lives and works in Ins (Anet) in the Bernese
Seeland region, where he has set up an outdoor workshop
in the woods.
The works on display can also be purchased, please
ask the staff at the Castle’s front desk as well as for
any information.
