Gerry Embleton - Between reality and fantasy
From the 12th of September until the 8th of November 2009
Gerry Embleton was born in London in 1941. While still at school he began to help his elder brother, the artist Ronald Embleton with a wide variety of comic strip illustration. During London's creative explosion in the 1960's he developed a wide range of artistic activities in many different fields of creativity, comic strips for children and adults, educational publications, advertising, book illustration, fairy stories, fantasy, etc.
His interest in accurate historical reconstructions and his close work with many museums won him a fine reputation in the field of historical and military costume and arms & armour. He has illustrated more than 80 titles for Osprey publications and other publishers, written and illustrated many articles and two photographic books on medieval military life. In 1983 he settled in Switzerland and established his own company, Time Machine AG (TM AG) creating astonishingly realistic life sized figures for exhibitions and over 60 museums world wide. Gerry Embleton is founder member of the Company of Saynt George, a living history group that mixes the pleasure of making history come alive with a passion for experimental archaeology.
