Christmas at the Castle - Cribs from Austria and South Tyrol From the 19th of November until the 8th of January 2012 Open every day, including during Christmas and New Year Between cultural riches and revival, the castle invites you on an enchanting voyage into the world of alpine cribs from Salzkammergut, Styria and Tyrol. With more than fifty groups and hundreds of figures, the atmosphere evokes radiant Christmas stories - baroque style and popular verve, grace of sacred events and a profusion of fine day to day scenes are brought together in the regions' custom. The exhibition is composed of two parts. On the one hand, elegance and prestige are brought to the forefront in the LEPI creations. Founded in 1920, this workshop is today considered one of the key members of wood sculpture in South Tyrol. The mise en scène orchestrated by Berta Steinacher shows the classics of LEPI's opulent progamme of cribs as well as unique large format pieces, exhibited for the first time outside of the workshop. On the other hand, inventivity and an innocent tone bring to life Uta Schwab's creations. Resident in Tobel (Thurgovia, Switzerland), she grew up in Styria. One of her specialisations is the Loahmmandl-Krippe, or crib of small clay men which she integrates into a box. Like the Grimm brothers' fairytales, her works captivate our imagination and project us; into a snow panorama or into The Orient in the intimacy of an Annunciation of the Renaissance and, finally, into the contemplation of places of heritage: Palermo, Castile, and even her adopted Thurgovia.
