Visiting the Castle

Make the most of your experience at the castle with these recommendations.

Lockers

Please note that there are lockers for personal belongings.
Certain objects are not allowed inside the castle and must be deposited at the reception desk, space allowing.

List of prohibited items
  • baby strollers ;
  • dorsal baby carriers ;
  • helmets ;
  • hiking poles (however, walking sticks, crutches, and seat sticks are allowed as long as they are equipped with a rubber tip) ;
  • sticks of any kind ;
  • tripods (photo or viedo) ;
  • selfie sticks ;
  • swords, or weapons of any kind ;
  • balls and balloons ;
  • all sharp or pointy objects.

Gruyères Castle cannot be held responsible in case of theft or damage of any personal effects left in deposit.

 

Animals

Animals, even if kept on a leash or in a bag, are not allowed within the castle grounds with the exception of assistance dogs (certificate required).

Food

Gruyères Castle does not have a restaurant area and picnics are forbidden inside the castle grounds. A playground and picnic area (Clos-aux-Cerfs) is available near the castle.

Photos

Photography are allowed in the castle only without flash and tripod. Commercial use of the images of the Château de Gruyères, its interiors and collections is strictly forbidden. Wedding photos (maximum 10 people, including the bride and groom) are allowed on the esplanade of the castle, in the courtyard and in the garden (availability depends on the season and weather conditions). Couples are requested to present themselves with the photographer and the 7 persons accompanying them at the reception desk to receive free access to the castle. The photo session cannot exceed 30 minutes and must not disturb any visitors.
