Gruyères Castle is a must-see historic site. Its collections offer a journey through eight centuries of art, history and legends.

Prepare your visit and find the best way to get to Gruyères Castle. You can also combine your visit with other local museums.

Opening hours

The castle is open every day, including Christmas and New Year’s day.

April – October 9 am – 6 pm
November – March 10 am – 5 pm

Last entry : 45 minutes before closing. We recommend that you arrive 1 hour before closing time in order to fully enjoy your visit.

Prices

The entrance ticket gives access to the castle, the garden and the temporary exhibitions. The garden is open from Easter to October. During the winter period, it can be viewed from the ramparts or the castle balcony.

Access

By car

The town of Gruyères is closed to traffic. Allow 10 to 20 minutes to walk through it to reach the castle from the various car parks.

By public transport

Plan for a 20-minute walk from Gruyères-Gare station to the castle. The Gruyères-Ville bus stop is at the entrance to the town. From Gruyères-Ville station, it's a 5 to10 minutes’ walk to the castle.

Know before visiting

Family visit

For accessibility and security reasons, it is not allowed to visit the castle rooms with a stroller or back baby carrier.

Toilets with a changing table are available at the castle reception.

Reduced mobility

Gruyères Castle is a historic monument. Due to its many staircases, access may be difficult for people with reduced mobility. Wheelchair users can only access the esplanade, the courtyard and, depending on the season, part of the garden.

Bags and security

Gruyères Castle has lockers for your personal belongings.
Certain bulky items are not allowed inside the castle and must be left at the reception.

Photos

Photography is allowed inside the castle only without flash and tripod. Commercial use of the images of the Château de Gruyères, its interiors and collections is strictly forbidden.

Wedding photos (maximum of 10 people, including the bride and groom) are allowed on the esplanade of the castle, in the courtyard and in the garden (availability depends on the season and weather conditions). Couples are requested to present themselves with the photographer and the 7 persons accompanying them at the reception desk to receive free access to the castle. The photo session cannot exceed 30 minutes and must not disturb any visitors.

Animals

Animals, even if kept on a leash or in a bag, are not allowed within the castle grounds except for assistance dogs (certificate required).

Food

Gruyères Castle does not have a restaurant and picnics are forbidden inside the castle grounds. A playground and picnic area (Clos-aux-Cerfs) is available near the castle.
