Visiting the Castle

Discover what Gruyères Castle has to offer and check accessibility to the historical monument.

Visit

It takes about 1 hour to visit the castle and the garden lasts. Consult the program of special events and exhibitions held during your visit.

In autumn and winter, not all rooms are heated; we recommend that you dress warmly.

The garden is open from Easter to October. During the winter period, it can be seen from the ramparts or from the castle balcony.

Audio guide in augmented reality

More stories to hear and see! That’s what the amazing Castle of Gruyères tour app offers. This augmented reality audio guide allows you to explore the nooks and crannies of the counts’ residence and discover the castle as you have never seen it before.

We recommend that you bring your own headphones.

Available on Apple Store and soon on Google Play.

Family Visit

Visiting the castle is highly recommended for families. Various fun and educational supports are available free of charge:

  • Gruyères Castle Bestiary
  • Chalamala tour

You can also book a guided tour or animation specifically created for families. Discover our tour offers here.

For accessibility and security reasons, it is not allowed to visit the castle rooms with a stroller or dorsal baby carrier.
Toilets with changing table are available at the castle reception.

Accessibility

The castle is a classified historical monument and the realization of accessibility modifications is highly regulated. Accessibility is therefore reduced, or even impossible, in some places. People in wheelchairs do not have access to the interior of the castle, but they can access the esplanade, the garden (open depending on the season and weather conditions) free of charge.
